Linear narrative- Our story was linear narrative and this
made the audience stay on the edge of their seats to constantly think what is
going to happen next. This is linked to Todorov’s theory- 5 distinct phases in
a linear narrative and there is an equilibrium-disequilibrium-new equilibrium.
There is first an establishment, where we are introduced to the characters.
There is then a problem/disruption when they meet the masked man. There is then
the development when they read the letter. There is then the complication when
one of the character dies.
The overall plot of our short film
could also be seen as conventional in the sense that it follows the theory of
binary oppositions notably associated with Levi Strauss. (1928) If we are to look at horror and or
thriller films the characters central to the plot often consist of sets of
binary oppositions usually good and evil, sane and insane, rational and
irrational and human and supernatural. Our own short film utilises this highly
influential theory. It includes binary oppositions as the basis for the film
